Interactive Accounting Dashboard (MVP)
Complex financial data made scannable — visualization, state management, and ruthless clarity.
Accounting software is where data density goes to die — walls of numbers nobody can scan. This MVP dashboard took genuinely complex financial data and made it legible, interactive, and fast.
Problem
Users needed to interrogate dense financial data — reconciliations, period comparisons, anomalies — but existing screens presented numbers as undifferentiated walls. Nothing was scannable, interactions were sluggish, and state bugs made the data feel untrustworthy.
Design & Architecture
I designed around scannability: whitespace as structure, a strict typographic hierarchy, and visualization chosen for the question being asked rather than for effect. Responsive layouts kept dense tables usable down to tablet widths, and every interaction got an immediate, honest loading state.
Execution
Built complex data visualizations with a predictable state layer — normalized stores, memoized selectors, and optimistic interactions. Typography, spacing, and color were systematized so new reports inherited clarity by default instead of re-deciding it per screen.
Impact
MVP validated with target users on first release: key reconciliation workflows completed faster in testing than with the incumbent tool, and the visualization patterns became the template for subsequent reports.
